Officer George Martinez was named the Brookfield Police Department’s 2025 Officer of the Year for his response to a shooting investigation on Custer Avenue.
The shooting was on Jan. 5, 2025, according to remarks by Police Chief Michael Kuruvilla at the Sept. 14 village board meeting.
Martinez arrived at an active, unsecured scene, secured a loaded firearm, and provided medical aid to a critically injured victim, Kuruvilla said.
The chief credited Martinez’s military background and current role as a SWAT operator with helping him handle the scene effectively.
“What stands out is the order of operations under that pressure. He stabilized the danger and then he saved a life,” Kuruvilla said.
