Identity theft
A 56-year-old man in the 100 block of Spring Road reported identity theft after someone used his information to open a ComEd account.
The man called police on Sept. 8 after receiving a bill for $243.74 for service to a Dixon address that he did not authorize.
Driver flees after hit-and-run
A man’s vehicle was damaged in a hit-and-run on westbound German Church Road at Wolf Road at 10:34 p.m. Sept. 4.
The man told police he was stopped at a red light in his white 2023 Mercedes-Benz when a white 2016 Chevy pickup truck rear-ended him. The other driver fled, but the man obtained the license plate number.
Police traced the plate to a man in Burr Ridge. An officer went to the address but found neither the man nor the truck.
Man charged with filing false police report
A 49-year-old man was charged with filing a false police report after claiming his 2024 Chevy was hit by a white box truck in Willow Springs, when the collision actually occurred in Bensenville and he was at fault.
The man told Willow Springs police at 10:01 a.m. Sept. 2 that a white Chevy box truck had hit his car while he was southbound in the 7900 block of La Grange Road, damaging the right headlight area. He said the other driver fled southbound on La Grange Road.
At approximately 2:50 p.m., Bensenville police contacted Willow Springs police about the man, saying he had struck a parked car in Bensenville at 8:07 a.m. that day.
The man admitted to Bensenville police that he had filed a false report with Willow Springs police to make himself appear the victim. The damage to his truck matched where the parked vehicle had been hit in Bensenville, police said.
