Identity theft attempt thwarted
A resident in the 700 block of 61st Street reported on Sept. 13 that they clicked a malicious link in an email.
After clicking the link, the victim received notifications from various websites, including banks, financial services, and Amazon.
The victim declined all transactions. However, the offender was able to use the victim’s reward points to obtain gift cards for a hotel chain.
Coin purse stolen at Marshall’s
A woman reported that a coin purse was stolen from her handbag while she was inside Marshall’s, 5555 Brainard Ave., between 5:15 and 6 p.m. Sept. 13.
The victim had already cancelled the credit and debit cards inside the purse at the time of the report.
Identity theft used to purchase iPhone
A resident in the 9600 block of 56th Street received a letter from AT&T on Sept. 14 regarding an iPhone purchase.
The victim never purchased an iPhone and is not an AT&T customer.
Catalytic converters stolen from three vehicles
A catalytic converter was stolen from a work van parked overnight in the 9600 block of 55th Street. The theft was discovered at 9:43 a.m. on Sept. 15
Two catalytic converters were stolen from pickup trucks parked outside Home Depot, 140 Countryside Plaza, at 11:06 a.m. on Sept. 15.
A loss prevention employee there located video surveillance showing a silver sedan leaving the area onto La Grange Road at 3:34 a.m. on Sept. 15.
Man steals from Best Buy twice
A loss prevention employee reported that a man wearing a cream-colored shirt and gray sweatpants stole $749.98 worth of merchandise from Best Buy, 11 Countryside Plaza, on Aug. 11.
The same man stole $599.99 worth of merchandise from the same store at 11:25 a.m. on Sept. 15.
No arrests have been made.
License plates stolen from vehicle
A victim reported that license plates were stolen from his vehicle while it was parked at Napleton Mazda, 6060 S. La Grange Road, between Aug. 26 and Sept. 12.
The victim reported the theft at 9:30 a.m. Sept. 16.
Hit-and-run on La Grange Road
A motorist reported that his car was sideswiped while he was driving south on La Grange Road near 55th Street at 9:59 a.m. on Sept. 17.
The other vehicle, a gray Toyota Camry, fled south on La Grange Road.
Thieves steal more than $1,000 in items
Two women stole items worth more than $1,000 from Jewel, 5545 S. Brainard Ave., at 8:50 a.m. Sept. 16.
One woman wore a yellow rain poncho; the other wore a pink shirt. They fled in a white van.
