Three Lions clubs raise funds at fifth annual Oktoberfest

The Bridgeview, Justice, and Argo-Summit Lions clubs held their fifth annual Oktoberfest on Saturday, Sept. 19, at the Bridgeview Community Center, drawing nearly 100 residents for polka music, brats, and community spirit.

The event, which ran from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., featured Eddie Korosa Jr. and His Boys From Illinois. Food included brats, hot dogs, soft pretzels, chips, and cupcakes, with a variety of beverages available.

In past years, the event has brought in approximately $7,500 through sponsorships, admission, raffles, and food sales. Money raised goes directly back into the three communities. Over the past year, the clubs have donated to the Summit Library Senior Book Club and Children’s Summer Reading Program, the Argo Coalition for Education scholarship fund, and the Summit Senior Center holiday activities. They participated in the Justice Park District’s Annual Community Egg Hunt and Trunk-or-Treat, recognized educators and community leaders of the year across three school districts, and supported the Summit Fire Department Explorer Program, Loyola Children’s Hospital, and emergency relief for storm damage. The clubs also funded eye exams and glasses for students in need and contributed to Camp Lions.

“We would like to thank all of our generous sponsors who continue to support our efforts,” said Dawn Grogan, secretary of the Bridgeview Lions Club.

Sponsors included Talerico Bakery, Kustom Towing, Senator Mike Porfirio, Mayor Steven Landek and the Village of Bridgeview, Bridgeview Community Center, Steak & Egger, Burbank Lions Club, Summit Animal Hospital, Willow Springs Lions Club, Willow Springs Lioness Lions Club, Mayor Sergio Rodriguez and the Village of Summit, Joey’s Red Hots, Jack & Pat’s Butcher Shop, Alpha Baking Company, Frito Lay Company, Vic Portillo State Farm, The Feed Store, The Patio, Supermercado LaVillita Inc., Wirtz Rentals, and the Oak Lawn Lions Club.

The clubs also received donations from Nick’s Barbecue, Vito & Nicks II, and the Desplaines Valley News.

Kaylee Betz, president of the Justice Lions Club, said the event depends on community support. “Thanks to everyone who made this event a big success. We can’t do what we do without our generous sponsors, donors, and amazing guests. I’m already looking forward to our sixth annual Oktoberfest,” she said.
