Two charged with driving without valid licenses
Israel Gracia-Pana, 19, of Chicago, was charged with driving without a license, aggravated speeding, driving without insurance, and having a defective windshield following a traffic stop at 4:02 a.m. Sept. 1, in the 8900 block of South Pulaski Road.
Police said Gracia-Pana was driving 70 mph in a 35-mph zone. His windshield had a crack more than six inches long. He is due in court Nov. 2.
Alma R. Ramirez-Abarca, 61, of Oak Lawn, was charged with driving without a valid license, improper lane usage, driving without insurance, and having both suspended and expired registration following a traffic stop at 9:28 a.m. Sept. 1, at 95th Street and South Austin Avenue. She is due in court Sept. 23.
Man charged with driving on revoked license
Emilio Vega, 51, of Hanover Park, was charged with driving with a revoked license, speeding, and driving without insurance following a traffic stop at 1:03 p.m. Sept. 1, at Southwest Highway and Major Avenue.
Police said Vega’s license had been suspended and revoked for driving under the influence of alcohol. He was driving 52 mph in a 30-mph zone. He is due in court Sept. 23.
Woman arrested for retail theft at Jewel
Vanessa M. Moyo-Rozo, 36, of Chicago, was charged with retail theft at Jewel, 8801 S. Ridgeland Ave., at 12:19 p.m. Sept. 3.
Police responded to a theft in progress where employees reported seeing Moyo-Rozo placing meat, celery, and a container of watermelon into her purse. She fled in a car driven by a man and was arrested shortly afterward during a traffic stop near 87th Street and Southwest Highway in Hometown. She is due in court Oct. 7.
Man charged with retail theft and drug possession
Michael A. Jackson, 45, of Countryside, was charged with retail theft at Jewel, 8801 S. Ridgeland Ave., at 4:50 p.m. Sept. 2.
Police detained Jackson outside the store with a backpack containing merchandise worth $74, including deodorant, body wash, and lighters. A search of his bag revealed methamphetamines, leading to a felony charge of possession of a controlled substance. He was also charged with illegal possession of hypodermic needles and drug paraphernalia. He was due in court Sept. 4.
Man charged with DUI after hit-and-run
Andy Abarca, 30, of Alsip, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, driving without insurance, leaving the scene of an accident, failure to report a crash, and improper lane usage following a traffic stop at 5:39 p.m. Aug. 30, at 103rd Street and South Cicero Avenue.
Police said Abarca was involved in a hit-and-run accident and registered 0.183 blood-alcohol content on a breath test. He is due in court Oct. 16.
