The official grand opening of the Nexus at Palos Hills rehabilitation center took place August 31, and officials said that patients can expect comprehensive and compassionate care.
Nexus at Palos Hills, 10426 S. Roberts Road, replaces Bria Health Care. The facility is designed for seniors who require around-the-clock medical support. Teams work closely with residents and relatives to ensure each individual’s medical, emotional, and social needs, according to staff.
While the official grand opening took place this week, Nexus at Palos has been serving the community for some time.
“We took over a year ago and we have been making progress,” said Erik Iverson, chief strategy officer for Nexus Health Care. “This place always had great bones. Everything was here to serve the community.”
Iverson took part in the ribbon cutting ceremony, along with managing partners Melissa Powell and Bryanna Wagner.
According to the Nexus at Palos Hills website, teams provide respiratory and pulmonary care, orthopedic care, and renal care. Cardiac support includes pacemaker management.
Nexus at Palos Hills has 207 certified beds and an average of 150 patients a day, according to the website.
“The patient care comes first, and everything stands on that,” said Rebecca Ajayi, certified nursing assistant. “The love they receive by family they will receive here.”
Matthew Gidley, administrator at Nexus at Palos, said the goal of the facility is to provide a comfortable setting for the patient.
“We want them to transition back to the community,” Gidley said.
Susanna Farfan, director of nursing, said everything that is done is centered on the patient.
‘We look at the patients as a whole picture and not just the illness,” Farfan said.
A bistro cafe is also on the first floor of the facility for patients and guests. Coffee, tea, and doughnuts are offered, as well as salads, sandwiches, muffins, cookies, and ice cream.
But Gidley also pointed out that the patients who are recuperating receive nutritious meals.
“We have a dietician that meets our patients on a daily basis so they can receive a well-balanced meal while they are doing their rehabilitation,” Gidley said.
Patients will receive rehabilitation care in a spacious room on the first floor, along with a six-foot deep pool for treatments. Private and semi-private rooms are offered. They are also provided with housekeeping and laundry services.
A beauty salon and barber services are also offered for patients. Outdoor courtyards and lounges are also provided for patients to recover and relax.
And to bring a smile to patients’ faces is the therapy dog, Jasper, who visits each room and provides comfort to those he meets.
Nexus at Palos Hills provides short-term rehabilitation, wound care, medication management, and chronic disease support. The care is provided by licensed nurses and certified nursing assistants available 24 hours a day.
Physical, occupational, and speech therapies are available on-site, helping residents regain strength and independence following surgery, illness, or injury.
Nexus at Palos Hills is near Northwestern Medicine Palos Hospital in Palos Heights, and Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn.
