Monee Police responded to Thorntons, 25451 S. Ridgeland Avenue, for a burglary call at 2:52 a.m. on August 28.
The business was open, with employees and customers present during the robbery.
The gaming machines were targeted by the three offenders, who were masked, gloved, and carrying sledgehammers and pry tools.
The robbers were in and out of the business within minutes. Their suspected vehicle—a slate-gray sports car—was then detected traveling through Peotone by the village’s Flock camera system.
A Peotone Officer immediately responded and located the vehicle pulling into the Peotone Travel Center. The vehicle had stopped directly outside the building’s south entrance. As the officer arrived, the driver began leaving the area, traveled through the parking lot and gas pumps, and fled northbound on Interstate 57 at a high rate of speed before a traffic stop could be initiated.
The same vehicle has reportedly been associated with other gaming-related crimes.
No employees or customers were injured.
The business was closed for a brief period after the incident for crime scene processing. Monee Police investigators said the investigation was ongoing.
