Perry Maple, 23, was a driver and gunman in a crew that stole nearly $700,000 from armored trucks and ATMs across Calumet City and Orland Park between January 2022 and March 2023.
In one robbery at a bank in a crowded shopping plaza on a Friday afternoon, Maple drove a stolen car to the ATM, shoved the technician to the ground, and pointed a gun in his face while he and a co-defendant stole about $155,000. In two other robberies, Maple served as the getaway driver.
On July 16, U.S. District Judge Robert W. Gettleman sentenced Maple to 15 years in prison. Maple had pleaded guilty in March to federal charges of robbery and armed robbery.
Maple was one of 11 people charged in June 2024 in connection with 11 armed robberies of armored trucks, ATMs, and banks across the suburbs. The crew stole nearly $700,000 in the three robberies in which Maple participated.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Elie Zenner said in court filings that Maple “willingly risked getting into a deadly shootout for the chance at hundreds of thousands of dollars in stolen proceeds.”
