The La Grange Village Board unanimously approved a resolution of appreciation for Trustee Glenn Thompson at its recent meeting.
Thompson, a board member for three years, is leaving for a new job in Florida.
Thompson was a driving force in the village’s flood mitigation efforts.
He helped establish Dry Up La Grange, a grassroots flood mitigation group that caught the attention of state representatives and members of Congress, who became willing to fund flood control projects because of the organization’s membership and visibility.
“It was truly a joy working with you guys,” Thompson said, addressing the board before the vote. “It was truly an honor.”
Trustee Beth Augustine credited Thompson with thorough preparation and meaningful contributions to board discussions.
“You listened intently to residents and businesses, and you care about the outcomes and concerns they had in a material way,” Augustine said during the Aug. 24 board meeting.
Trustee Shawana D. McGee offered a personal reflection.
“Sometimes, goodbye is difficult because it reminds us just how much someone has meant to us. But rather than simply saying goodbye, I choose to say thank you for all the memories,” McGee said.
Thompson said he felt comfortable leaving because the village has progressed on key flooding projects.
“I feel very comfortable in the fact that now is a good time to leave the board and turn it over to new and capable hands,” he said.
The board presented Thompson with a photo of village hall and a copy of the resolution for his new office in Florida.
