The winners of the Palos Heights Classic Car Show raffles were announced at last week’s City Council meeting, though they were not in attendance.
The 50/50 raffle was won by Jenny Bednarz. The raffle brought in a total of $5,442, which was split equally between Bednarz and the Classic Car Show organizing committee.
Usually, the winner is honored at the city council meeting with a presentation of an oversized check, but Bednarz was unable to attend.
The committee also recognized several sponsor businesses which have been supporting the event for 10 years or more.
Running for Kicks, Golden Shoes, Pop’s, and United Blue Cross Blue Shield Insurance were all recognized with plaques during the meeting.
Pop’s and United BCBS have been sponsoring the event for 14 years, while Golden’s and Running for Kicks have been sponsors for 10 years.
Committee Chairman Bob Starzyk thanked the sponsors as well as all the volunteers who coordinated the event, which was held despite inclement weather conditions created by wildfire smoke from Canada.
“Thanks again to the city, to public works, and to the police department for how much they do for us in our command center in the firehouse,” said Starzyk. “We couldn’t do this without the community and all our volunteers.”
Mayor Robert Straz also thanked Starzyk and the committee “for all their hard work,” noting that the classic car show is the city’s biggest annual event and “often the most people we have in the downtown,” noting that it “seems to get bigger every year.”
