Woman charged with DUI after erratic driving
Jazmine N. Mancha, 33, of Chicago Heights, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol following a traffic stop at 1:03 a.m. Aug. 19, at 95th Street and Brandt Avenue. Police said she was driving erratically without headlights and failed field sobriety tests. She refused to submit a breath sample and appeared confused about her location. Mancha was also cited for driving without headlights and improper lane usage. She is due in court Oct. 7.
Man arrested with cocaine, cannabis in vehicle
James Edward Hunt III, 35, of Detroit, was charged with possession of a controlled substance and manufacture and delivery of a controlled substance following a traffic stop at 7:10 p.m. Aug. 18, in the 8700 block of South Nashville Avenue. Police said officers found a bag containing 2.2 grams of cocaine wrapped for sale, 20.2 grams of cannabis, five THC oil cartridges, and a drug scale in the car. Hunt was also charged with illegal possession of cannabis in a vehicle and cited for failure to wear a seatbelt. He was held for a detention hearing on Aug. 19.
Man charged with retail theft at Target
Juan R. Vega-Perez, 31, of Chicago, was charged with felony retail theft at Target, 4120 W. 95th St., at 3:49 p.m. Aug. 18. Police said he left the store with assorted merchandise worth $456 concealed in a baby stroller. He was due in court Aug. 20.
Man charged with obstruction after refusing commands
Deonte P. McCarthy, 35, of Chicago, was charged with obstructing a police officer following a traffic stop at 11:37 a.m. Aug. 17, in the 5700 block of Southwest Highway. Police said McCarthy refused to comply with lawful commands, including holding up his driver’s license for inspection. Officers also noted his registration sticker was displayed in a rear window rather than on the license plate. McCarthy was cited for failure to signal when required, improper display of registration, driving without insurance, and failure to display his driver’s license. He is due in court Sept. 30.
Woman charged with DUI after swerving
Maribel Hurtado, 35, of Chicago, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol following a traffic stop at 6:53 p.m. Aug. 17, in the 9700 block of South Keeler Avenue. Police said she was swerving between lanes and nearly struck an oncoming vehicle. An open bottle of tequila was in her car, and she failed field sobriety tests and refused to submit a breath sample. Hurtado was also charged with failure to drive on the right side of the road and illegal transportation of open alcohol. She is due in court Sept. 16.
Man charged with aggravated speeding; claims emergency
Mushtag Ahmed, 28, of Bridgeview, was charged with aggravated speeding following a traffic stop at 2:53 a.m. Aug. 20, at 87th Street and Central Avenue. Police said he was driving 114 mph in a 35-mph zone and ran a red light. Ahmed told officers he was speeding because he received an alert that a gas station he owns on 87th Street in Chicago was being burglarized. He was also cited for disregarding a traffic-control device. He is due in court Sept. 17.
