The Trojans graduated their biggest senior class in years, but coach Eric Villarreal likes the chemistry of this year’s team and believes it can contend for a conference championship.
Kelly will build around four returning starters: senior running back/linebacker Chris Lopez, junior quarterback/defensive end Jesse Herrera, junior center/defensive tackle Cuahutemoc Zuhuantitla and junior guard/defensive tackle Gibran Zuhuantitla.
Herrera, a two-sport standout who also wrestles, “has really stepped up this season to become the voice of the locker room,” Villarreal said.
Some newcomers who could contribute immediately are junior running back/receiver/safety Rico Johnson, freshman receiver/cornerback Deonta McGee and freshman receiver/cornerback Sebastian Padilla.
