A 43-year-old Orland Park man was arrested Tuesday, August 18, in connection with a June crash on LaGrange Road that killed a 66-year-old man waiting at a bus stop.
Prakash Patel was charged with reckless homicide and two counts of aggravated reckless driving, along with 14 traffic violations, according to the Orland Park Police Department. Police said his vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed northbound on LaGrange Road near 149th Street when it struck three other vehicles on June 29 at 10:52 a.m.
One of those vehicles struck the pedestrian, who was standing on the southeast corner at the bus stop. He suffered life-threatening injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Orland Fire Protection District personnel and officers began lifesaving measures, but were unable to revive him.
Seven people in total were transported to local hospitals and treated and released.
Patel was arrested without incident and was scheduled to appear at Cook County Fifth Municipal District Courthouse in Bridgeview Thursday, August 20, for his first appearance.
