Reckless driving, speeding charged
A 19-year-old Brookfield man was ticketed after radar clocked him doing 56 mph in a 35-mph zone on South Brainard Avenue at 2:21 p.m. Aug. 8. He also passed stopped traffic on the wrong side of the road.
He was charged with reckless driving, speeding, and improper lane use. Police did not release his name.
Suspect flees after giving false name
A man gave officers a false name while they investigated a domestic disturbance at 9:59 p.m. Aug. 9 in the 5300 block of South La Grange Road and then fled on foot.
When officers discovered his real identity and moved to arrest him, he fled on foot and was last seen running through a backyard in the 900 block of Madison in LaGrange.
If caught, he will be charged with obstructing identification and obstructing an officer.
Purse stolen at grocery store
A woman reported her purse stolen at 1:48 p.m. Aug. 11 while shopping at Tony’s Fresh Market, 6704 Joliet Road. One of her credit cards was used to make a purchase in Chicago.
Street sign torn down by youths
A witness reported three juveniles tore down a street sign at 58th Street and Francis Avenue at 7:22 p.m. Aug. 11 and fled on bicycles.
Driver throws drink at another vehicle
A woman reported that at 11:22 a.m. Aug. 13, a driver threw a drink at her car after she informed them their brake lights were not working.
The incident occurred at Joliet Road and La Grange Road. When the woman pulled alongside the vehicle to alert the occupants, the front seat passenger swore at her and threw a cup of liquid that struck her vehicle.
Attempted burglary at gaming parlor
Three offenders wearing hooded sweatshirts and face coverings used a sledgehammer to break a window at Dotty’s, 5321 S. La Grange Road, at 5:38 a.m. Aug. 13, a woman told police.
When they saw a witness, they entered a silver Acura sedan with no license plates and fled at high speed.
Peanuts thrown at restaurant employee
An irate customer threw a handful of peanuts at a Texas Roadhouse employee at 9960 Joliet Road at 3:55 p.m. Aug. 13, striking them in the chest.
The customer was upset about their seating and had been asked to leave just before throwing the peanuts.
Corvette stolen
The owner of a 1998 Chevrolet Corvette reported it stolen from outside their residence in the 5900 block of La Grange Road between late Aug. 13 and early Aug. 14.
Merchandise stolen from Jewel
A loss prevention employee at Jewel, 5545 S. Brainard Ave., reported that two offenders stole merchandise worth $2,529.33 at 8:38 a.m. Aug. 14.
One man wore a gray shirt, black pants, and black shoes. The other man wore a dark shirt, black sweatpants, and gray shoes. Police did not say what was stolen.
