Brookfield’s zoning code needs an update, officials said, after going unchanged since the 1960s.
“That code is around 60 years old. It should have been updated a long, long, long time ago,” Village Manager Tim Wiberg said on Aug. 17.
Staff has spent the past two years working on the revision.
“Are there significant changes? No. It’s not going to change people’s property rights,” Wiberg said. “Uses have changed and there are all kinds of new provisions — what you can and can’t do in a community.”
Most Brookfield residents probably won’t notice the changes, Wiberg said, “but developers will when they propose projects in town.”
The Planning and Zoning Commission’s zoning update committee will review the draft. The code is available at www.brookfieldil.gov.
