Brookfield Parks and Recreation is promoting fall events and continuing its popular Duck Race fundraiser to support scholarship programs for local families.
Trustee Kyle Whitehead reported that summer camp concluded Aug. 7 and praised the program’s affordability for families across Brookfield.
Construction continues at Ehlert Park Field One, which will feature a new storage unit and press box behind home plate.
Work is also underway at Maple South Park, where crews are installing a new sidewalk entrance, benches, picnic tables, and trash cans. The park is scheduled to open in September.
The next concert in the park is this Friday, Aug. 14, featuring the Abby Kay Band, a Midwestern rock band that covers artists like B.B. King, Janis Joplin, and Miranda Lambert.
Music on Grand returns Saturday, Aug. 29, headlined by 90s Pop Nation with opening acts the Redmonds and Chicago Rock House.
The Parks and Recreation Foundation continues selling rubber ducks for $5 each at the farmers market and community events. Winners can receive up to $1,000 if their duck wins the race. Buyers who purchase 10 ducks for $50 receive a free golden duck that can add to prize winnings.
All proceeds benefit local families in need. Families who qualify by income level can receive discounts of up to 50 percent on park registration fees.
“Because of the success of the Duck Race and some of our other fundraising events, we have been able to build a significant balance and are looking to get the word out to eligible families to apply for scholarship funds,” Whitehead said.
Before and after school care, which begins with the school year, is a popular program with high demand for scholarships.
The Parks and Recreation Commission next meets at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 18 at Village Hall.
