Brookfield residents should prepare for significant traffic disruptions starting next week as the village begins a major reconstruction project on Maple Avenue.
The complete road construction will run from Aug. 18 through November, with spot curb repairs continuing throughout.
The project spans Maple Avenue from 31st Street to the railroad tracks.
“Traffic will remain open in both directions throughout the duration of that project,” Village Manager Tim Wiberg said at the village board meeting on Aug. 10.
The village spent the summer preparing the site with sewer repairs, water main replacement, and fire hydrant work. Sewer lining near the fountain was completed Aug. 10.
Wiberg urged residents to exercise caution and plan ahead.
“Leave earlier,” he said. “Please don’t use the adjacent side streets as quick bypasses and speedways.”
The timing coincides with the start of the school year, which Wiberg acknowledged will add complexity. Several schools are located along routes in the area.
“If you leave a little bit earlier and plan, things will work out and it’ll be nice when it’s all done,” he said.
The village plans to provide regular updates through social media as work progresses.
