Chicago’s oldest comic convention, Fan Expo Chicago, is returning to the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont August 14-16 with a truly star-studded cast. From super-powered battlers in “The Boys” to Hollywood legend Kurt Russell to “The Lord of the Rings” fellowship, fans will have actors and celebrities across generations and genres to fawn over at this year’s convention.
Hot off the finale of the dark and comedic series that challenged the image of what super-powered “heroes” would be like in the real world, the characters who took down Homelander will reunite. Karl Urban (Butcher), Erin Moriarty (Annie), Karen Fukuhara (Kimiko), Laz Alonso (M.M.), Colby Minifie (Ashley), Valorie Curry (Firecracker), and Cameron Crovetti (Ryan) will all be present to describe their five-season fight against an all-powerful villain.
While huge panels offer a variety of interesting perspectives, a man who needs no introduction will take center stage on his own—Kurt Russell. Acting for over six decades, Russell has saved the President in Escape from New York and displayed universal power in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. The icon continues to dazzle with movies such as The Rivals of Amziah King and shows like The Madison, which debuted this year.
Arguably the most-hyped ensemble gracing Chicago with its presence will be the Hobbit heavy-hitters Elijah Wood (Frodo Baggins), Sean Astin (Samwise Gamgee), Billy Boyd (Pippin Took), and Dominic Monaghan (Merry Brandybuck) will regale fully packed crowds with tales of their journey across Middle-earth to defeat the dark forces after the One Ring. Fans who purchased a special breakfast with the quad will get to know them in true fantasy fashion with a delicious Shire buffet. Even more fellowship actors will join the fray throughout the weekend, making for a truly one-of-a-kind Lord of the Rings and Hobbit experience for anyone looking to meet their heroes, grab photos, or collect signatures.
International stars aren’t the only reason to attend the Fan Expo though. Merchandise, comic artists, writers, educational panels, fandom meetups, photo opportunities, and more fill Rosemont’s convention center for three full days.
