The Palos Heights Police Department welcomed residents, first responders and community organizations Aug. 4 for National Night Out, an annual community-building campaign that strengthens relationships between neighbors and law enforcement while promoting public safety and crime prevention.
The free event was held from at the Palos Heights Police Station, 7607 W. College Drive, where families, friends and neighbors gathered to meet the men and women who serve their community.
“What I like most about this event is the engagement with the local community,” Palos Heights Police Officer Cynthia Sepulveda said.
Residents toured the police station, learned about crime prevention and personal safety, and took part in activities designed to bring neighbors and first responders together in a relaxed setting.
The evening featured K9 demonstrations, police and fire vehicles, a drone show, a magic show, a reptile presentation, a bounce house, music from a DJ, prizes and food. Children and adults also had the chance to interact with first responders, explore emergency vehicles and learn more about the work police officers and firefighters do every day.
Lilli Gomez, who attended with her 4-year-old daughter, Alani, said the event gave families a chance to connect with others in the community.
“It’s a great way to get out and meet new people in the neighborhood,” Gomez said.
Community organizations and local businesses also participated, including the Palos Heights Women’s Club, Pathlights, United Insurance, Trinity Services, Bigby Coffee, Starbucks, McDonald’s and Hive 5 Heights.
Pop’s Beef and Andy’s Ice Cream donated food for the event, giving attendees another opportunity to gather, visit and enjoy the evening with neighbors.
