The Brookfield Planning and Zoning Commission will review a new draft of the village’s zoning update at its next meeting, with the revised code expected to come before the village board in the fall.
The commission did not meet in July but is scheduled to reconvene Aug. 27 to examine the updated zoning language.
“They will be reviewing the new draft of the zoning update, which hopefully after that point will come to the board,” Trustee Jennifer Hendricks, the village board’s liaison to the Planning and Zoning Commission, said at Monday’s village board meeting.
The zoning update represents a significant undertaking for the village, as the comprehensive code governs land use, development standards and permitted uses across Brookfield. Updates to zoning ordinances are typically done to reflect changing community needs, accommodate new development patterns or clarify existing regulations.
The commission’s review in August will be a critical step in the process. Following the commission’s evaluation, the updated zoning code is expected to advance to the village board for consideration and potential adoption in the fall.
The Planning and Zoning Commission meets at 7 p.m. on the fourth Thursday of each month in the Edward Barcal Hall Board Room at Village Hall, 8820 Brookfield Ave. Residents interested in the zoning update process are invited to attend the Aug. 27 meeting.
