The Palos Heights City Council took the first steps on July 21 to begin improvements to the city pool.
The city council voted unanimously to approve a contract with Williams Architects for $21,000 to compile construction document plans and specifications and bid proposal documents for work on the pool, including a new liner. The company will also be in charge of permitting, bidding, and construction observation for the project.
According to Alderman Jeffrey Key, the project is “in its very early stages” but the liner of the pool is “past its life expectancy.”
“The pool liner is a very big deal, and it’s an expensive project,” he said. “We’ve had some leaks and shifts as we’ve worked on the deck, and it needs to be replaced.”
The pool will complete its current season as-is, with regular hours continuing through August 14, and shortened hours in effect on weekends through Labor Day on September 7.
After the pool is closed for the season, bids will be taken for the project, and Key said the work is expected to take place in early spring 2027.
“The work should be done and the new liner should be installed for the 2027 season,” Key said, though he noted that an exact timetable and cost for the project still need to be established.
