Worth Mayor Mary Werner said the public works department deserves praise for cleaning up the village following two days of raging storms last month.
“I cannot praise you guys enough for all that you have done,” Werner said during the Worth Village Board meeting Tuesday night. “There was a lot of feedback on Facebook from people who appreciated the efforts of public works. They have done a good job.”
Werner commented that there were many more trees that fell long after the storms that took place June 10 and June 11. However, Ed Urban, director of public works, said that most of the trees and branches have been removed.
Some fallen trees are still at the Water’s Edge Golf Course, which had many fallen branches as well. But most of the trees, branches and other debris have been been taken away, he said.
Trustee Brad Urban, who serves as chair of the public works committee, said that the storm damage cleanup was completed in 15 working days.
“Transferring chips and logs to a recycling center will take place as time allows,” he added.
National Night Out
Trustee Bill Nilles, who chairs the public safety committee, said 45 arrests were made by police last month. Thirty people were arrested and charged with driving without a license, suspended licenses, or revoked licenses during June.
Nilles also added that the Worth Police Department will hold the annual National Night Out from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 4, near the boat launch and at Altman Park, 115th and Beloit. The annual event is held in an effort for police and the community to reach out to each other in a relaxed and fun evening.
Hot dogs, chips and ice cream will be provided. A DJ will provide entertainment, and the Worth Park District will hold some games.
Stahlak Park opening
A ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, July 30, for the official opening of Stahlak Park, 111th Place and Natchez Avenue. Light refreshments will be served after the ceremony.
The new park will offer challenge courses for adults and children, pickleball courts, and outdoor shelters.
Village Clerk Bonnie Price said that resurfacing bids for the lots outside Village Hall and Metra were accepted. Advantage Paving Solutions offered the lowest bid at $292,590 and has been chosen to do the work.
An ordinance was approved for a special permit use to establish and operate a real estate investment office, 11415 S. Harlem Ave. A business license was also granted to owner Osama Ahmed, who will operate ICON Legacy Group at the location.
A business license was also granted to owner Hashem Mohsen to open Gulf Amber LLC, 7103 W. 111th St., Unit B. Mohsen said he will be selling a variety of perfumes.
Trustee Laura Packwood, who serves as chair of the golf committee, said that Water’s Edge Golf Course is doing really well. She added that the summer scramble will be held Sunday, Aug. 9, at the golf course, 7205 W. 115th St.
The Worth Cruisers Car Show is held from 5 to 8 p.m. each Monday at the Water’s Edge Golf Course. At the adjacent Water’s Edge Bar & Grill, visitors to the car show can also sample ample hamburgers for “Burger Nights.”
“There have been a lot of compliments for Burger Night,” Werner said. “It’s a great thing.”
Werner also noted that the Worth Park District plans to hold a craft show on Saturday, Dec. 12. They are seeking vendors for that holiday event.
