Orland Park honored OPA Modern Greek Cuisine as the July Business of the Month, celebrating the restaurant’s commitment to the community and its role in the village’s economic vitality. Located at 8801 West 143rd Street, OPA opened its doors on December 13, 2021, with a mission to bring authentic Greek flavors and traditions to Orland Park residents.
The restaurant is owned by Maureen Karuntzos, George Karuntzos, and John Karuntzos, who brings family recipes to the menu.
“We’d like to welcome you into our restaurant with great food, wonderful staff, and we’d also like to thank Orland for making us the restaurant of the month,” Maureen Karuntzos said in a video presented to the board.
The restaurant specializes in Greek cuisine, including lamb, lamb chops, and saganaki, a fried cheese dish. OPA features a large dining room that accommodates larger parties and a private party room that holds 30 to 80 people.
The Karuntzos family is an active member of the Orland Park Chamber of Commerce and has demonstrated a consistent commitment to community collaboration and local investment.
“Our business has never been better, and we wanna thank everyone from Orland,” Maureen Karuntzos said. “We wanna thank the Village of Orland for everything they’re gonna do to the property to make it even more beautiful, and we’re really looking forward to the future.”
The village has purchased the property, a development the owners described as exciting. Details on the village’s plans for the property were not disclosed during the meeting.
Mayor Dodge noted that the village “thrives on the dedication, passion, and entrepreneurial spirit of its local business community, which enhances a quality of life for everyone, economic vitality, and cultural richness of our town.”
George Karunzos accepted the proclamation on behalf of the restaurant.
“Thank you very much for the honor,” he said. “We appreciate it.”
