For south suburban residents looking to begin college, earn a certificate or explore a new career path, Moraine Valley Community College is opening its doors next month to showcase the opportunities available closer to home.
The college’s Southwest Education Center in Tinley Park will host an open house Tuesday, Aug. 4, and Wednesday, Aug. 5, from 1 to 7 p.m. at 17900 S. 94th Ave., giving prospective students and community members a chance to tour the facility, meet staff and learn about the programs and services offered there.
Designed to serve students in the southwest suburbs, the center provides an alternative to traveling to Moraine Valley’s main campus in Palos Hills while offering many of the same academic resources and student support services.
Visitors will have an opportunity to explore the center’s classrooms, science and computer labs, study rooms and student lounge, as well as learn about financial aid, academic planning and placement testing.
Representatives also will be available to discuss Moraine Valley’s more than 140 degree and certificate programs, transfer options and workforce training opportunities. Information will be available on credit and noncredit courses, High School Equivalency preparation and English as a second language classes.
The Southwest Education Center will offer a variety of courses during the fall 2026 semester, including biology, nursing, communication, computer information systems, economics, humanities, mathematics, medical terminology, physical education and health, psychology and language studies. Fall credit classes begin Aug. 24.
Conveniently located near Interstate 80, the Tinley Park center features updated facilities for nursing and Basic Nurse Assistant training while providing access to the same support services students receive on the main campus.
Moraine Valley also offers classes at its Education Center in Blue Island and through online instruction.
