Summit Girl Scout Troop 56615 is introducing its scouts to local businesses, starting with a tour of Hallett & Sons Expert Movers on West 59th Street.

The “Come with the Girl Scouts Series” is designed to give scouts a closer look at businesses in their own community, troop leader Kristina Mercado said. The program also aims to grow the troop’s membership.

“As Summit residents, we pass by Hallett often, but didn’t know much about it,” Mercado said. “This is a great way for our scouts to see what’s in their own backyard.”

Hallett & Sons is a female-owned, family operated business that has been going strong for three generations. Current owner Dawn took over operations in 2011. The company moves household goods, fossils, books, office furniture, and other items and has been in business since 1926.

Mercado said the troop is actively recruiting new members and welcomes scouts and their families to join future business tours. Girl Scouts membership requires a council fee, but Mercado said she has options to help offset costs.
