Michael Bedalow was sworn in as Justice’s deputy police chief at the village board meeting July 13, filling the vacancy left by Fred Schuerg’s retirement after more than three decades.
Bedalow, a 24-year veteran of the Justice Police Department, has spent his entire law enforcement career with the department. He began as a patrol officer, advanced to detective, and spent most of his career as a DEA Task Force Officer representing Justice. He was promoted to sergeant in 2016 and holds multiple instructor certifications in firearms, rapid deployment, and high-risk vehicle stops.
Mayor Kris Wasowicz praised the appointment.
“I’m very happy with this decision,” Wasowicz said. “We know him well, and he’s been with us a long time. He’s an excellent officer and has great organizational skills. Our Chief trusts him and I trust him. He’s more than qualified to be our deputy chief.”
Bedalow grew up in the Bridgeview/Hickory Hills area and graduated from St. Laurence High School.
“I’m thankful for the opportunity to be Deputy Chief and look forward to serving the Department and the Village in this new role,” Bedalow said.
