From the looks of it, Tractor Discovery Day in Monee was a big hit.

Hosted by the newly opened Tractor Supply Company store on Monee-Manhattan Road, the event featured kids’ farm games and activities, free hot dogs and hamburgers, and of course, tractors.

The tractors were courtesy of the Will County Threshermen’s Association. The idea behind it all was to raise awareness of historical agriculture and machinery.

It also encourages them to come see more at the WCTA’s Annual Antique Tractor & Steam Engine Show, this year to be held July 16-19 at the Spiess Farm, 13831 W. Joliet Road in Manhattan.

The June 28 event at TSC also offered a chance to ride on or drive a tractor.

WCTA Director Jerry Kinsella said the fun is “seeing the amazement on the faces of the kids–and adults–” when they’re seated on the machines.

For kids like Boaz Kiewiet, 11, of Monee it was an experience not to be forgotten.

For Kaila Lipowski, 8, of Lockport, driving a tractor–even if it was her own miniature– was something she has been doing since she was four. It probably won’t be much longer until she’s perched on one of the full-sized models.

Other kids, like Monee twins Hudson and Hadleigh Klett, enjoyed the games and challenges.

TSC Monee Manager Darlene Krueger was thrilled with the success of the event.

“Wow, our event was so much fun,” she said.

“We ended up serving 100 burgers and 100 hot dogs to the vendors and some of the customers that were interested in eating, as well.

“The Will County Threshermen’s Association Tractor Show would like to come back again next year to Tractor Supply in Monee. They were pleased with the number of people that participated; they were kind enough to offer tractor rides to the kids, which made it fun for them. as well.

“Little Feet Pastures came with a 1-week-old Hyland Calf that was adorable and they offered up close calf snuggles and pictures for $10. Molly was also there with her fantastic coffee trailer. I want to thank everyone that came to the store to support this fun event.  We are going to be offering flash sales events weekly so stop by and see us.”

For those interested, the Will County Threshermen’s Association, “membership is open to more than farmers and tractor owners.”

“Anyone who is interested in supporting our mission to preserve agricultural heritage is encouraged to become a member and volunteer with our organization,” said Jess Crane, Marketing and PR director.

“We have meetings every month to gather, discuss business and opportunities for the members and community.

“Our next event will be our 64th Annual Show July 16-19 at Spiess Farm 13831 W. Joliet Road in Manhattan. We are looking for volunteers to help with the show.  You can see the signup form and more info on our website willcountythresh.org
