A fire forced the temporary closure of Obbie’s Pizza on Friday, July 3, at 6654 W. Archer Avenue in Garfield Ridge.
According to a statement posted on social media Friday evening, no one was injured in the fire. The restaurant said it will remain closed as owners begin rebuilding and remodeling.
“While our hearts are heavy, we are incredibly grateful to share that everyone is safe,” the Obbie’s family wrote. “Your support has meant everything to us, and we’re thankful beyond words for the firefighters and first responders who acted so quickly today.”
Obbie’s has been part of the Garfield Ridge community for decades, and the closure prompted an immediate outpouring of support from neighbors — including a competing pizzeria.
Triano’s Pizza, located nearby at 6758 S. Archer, announced a fundraiser Sunday to support Obbie’s employees who are now out of work. From 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday, July 5, Triano’s pledged to donate 25 percent of in-person and phone orders to Obbie’s staff. Customers who mention “Obbies” when ordering are eligible; online delivery orders do not qualify.
“Small businesses are the backbone of our community, and while we may be competitors, we’re neighbors first,” Triano’s posted on social media.
Obbie’s also directed customers to Villa Rosa, a sister restaurant at 5786 S. Archer, as another way to support the family during the closure.
The restaurant said customers who had prepaid orders will receive full refunds. Obbie’s said it will share updates on the rebuilding process on social media.
