Palos Park residents have complained of speeders and loud vehicles in the area, especially on LaGrange Road, and the village is joining forces with other communities and agencies to stop it.

Palos Park is a part of a regional traffic safety initiative that has already started.

“Over the next 30 days or so, we’ll be conducting additional traffic enforcement in the area, particularly focusing on the hours between 6 p.m. to midnight,” Palos Park Police Commissioner Dan Polk said at the June 22 village council meeting.

“The goal is simple – to provide safety on our roads.”

He said that Hickory Hills, Orland Park, Palos Heights, Willow Springs and the Cook County Sheriff’s Police Department are a part of the initiative.

Polk praised Palos Park Police Chief Joe Miller for his role in getting this group together.

“I would like to thank the chief’s efforts for keeping our roads safe and the Cook County Sherriff’s Department for assigning additional personnel to the Palos area,” Polk said.

In Palos Park, look for officers to concentrate not only on LaGrange Road, but on Route 7, Route 83, Route 45, 123rd Street, 131st Street, Wolf Road, Bell Road, Archer Avenue and Parker Road as well.

Palos Park cops will be using laser speed devices to monitor speeds and other officers will make traffic stops.

“We want you to be safe as we deal with this virus,” Miller said in the news release. “We also want you to be safe on Palos Park’s roadways.

“One of the biggest complaints we get from citizens is drivers traveling as excessive speed.”
