Summer just got a little sweeter in Historic Old Orland.
Families strolling through the neighborhood now have a new place to cool off with a scoop of ice cream, sip a cup of coffee or satisfy a craving for old-fashioned candy at Peace Parlor, the newest addition to Peace Marketplace.
Located at 14314 Beacon Ave., the shop officially opened June 27, adding an ice cream parlor, coffee counter and nostalgic candy shop to the locally owned marketplace.
Peace Marketplace owners Kevin and Jane Callozzo have welcomed shoppers to the store for more than seven years. Expanding the business with an ice cream shop felt like a natural next step.
“We were looking for a way to utilize our outdoor patio and do something fun for the neighborhood,” said Barb Dvorak, an Orland Park resident and Peace Marketplace employee.
The result is a family-friendly gathering spot where customers can enjoy a treat before relaxing on the patio or browsing the marketplace’s selection of gifts, home décor and specialty items.
The shop serves 16 flavors of Cedar Crest Ice Cream, giving visitors plenty of choices. According to employee Abby Quinn, one flavor has quickly become the customer favorite.
“The most popular flavor is Pirate’s Bounty,” Quinn said while scooping cones behind the counter. “It’s caramel-flavored ice cream with M&M’s and crushed chocolate sandwich cookies.”
Close behind are Caramel Collision, a caramel-flavored ice cream loaded with chocolate-coated caramel mini cups and a caramel swirl, and Mackinac Island Fudge, vanilla ice cream blended with chewy fudge pieces and a rich butter fudge swirl.
Beyond the ice cream case, visitors will also find freshly brewed coffee, nostalgic candies and classic bottled sodas, creating a shop that appeals to both children discovering old-fashioned treats for the first time and adults reliving childhood favorites.
The addition of Peace Parlor adds another destination to Historic Old Orland, encouraging residents and visitors alike to slow down, grab a cone and spend time enjoying one of the village’s most charming districts.
Peace Parlor is open daily from noon to 9 p.m. at Peace Marketplace, 14314 Beacon Ave., in Historic Old Orland.
