A pair of Division I-bound seniors highlight the list of the area’s All-State softball players,
Beecher teammates Makenzie Johnson and Taylor Norkus both were named to the Class 2A All-State first team by the Illinois Coaches Association.
Johnson, an outfielder who will play at Northern Illinois, batted .584 with 55 runs, 38 RBIs, eight doubles, 10 triples and two home runs. She had a .639 on-base percentage, a .961 slugging percentage and 17 walks with just eight strikeouts in 119 at-bats. She also stole 13 bases for the 32-1 Bobcats.
Norkus, who will pitch for Colgate, went 23-1 with 227 strikeouts and 18 walks in 148 1/3 innings. Opponents hit just .150 against her.

Four local players were named to the 2A All-State second team: Manteno senior catcher/infielder Aubrie Goudreau and senior outfielder Alyssa Singleton, Peotone senior pitcher Sophie Klawitter and Beecher sophomore infielder Grace Wuest.
Goudreau, a Central Alabama recruit, batted .490 with 36 runs, 37 RBIs, eight doubles, six triples and two home runs.
Klawitter, who will play at Louisville, was 9-12 with a 1.55 earned-run average and 317 strikeouts and just 85 hits allowed in 161 2/3 innings. She finished with 1,144 career strikeouts, ranking in the top 20 all-time in state history. Klawitter also hit .329.
Wuest hit .421 with 36 runs and 42 RBIs to go along with six doubles and three home runs.
Named to the 2A third team were Beecher senior infielder Elena Kvasnicka, Manteno freshman pitcher/infielder Mady Dye and Manteno sophomore catcher/infielder Savanna Watkins.
Kvasnicka batted .424 with 32 runs, 29 RBIs, six doubles, a triple and a homer.
Watkins hit .438.
In Class 1A, Grant Park senior pitcher/infielder Cheyenne Hayes was named to the second team.
The Wagner recruit struck out 213 in 118 2/3 innings, allowing 73 hits and 23 walks. She also hit .534 with 40 RBIs, 17 doubles, two triples and five home runs.
In Class 3A, Crete-Monee senior infielder Teeleana Ramirez was picked for the third team. She hit .825 with 61 runs, 31 RBIs, seven doubles, six triples and eight home runs.
Crete trio honored
Crete-Monee senior infielder AJ Monegan received Class 3A All-State honorable mention by the Illinois High School Baseball Coaches Association.
He hit .457 with 47 runs, 14 RBIs and 45 stolen bases.
Two Crete-Monee athletes were named Academic All-State by the Illinois Volleyball Coaches Association: Logan Bartling and Matthew Garcia.
