Fraud used at Home Depot

A complainant discovered on June 13 that their identity had been compromised and used to rent a vehicle and heavy equipment from Home Depot, 140 Countryside Plaza. The property had not been returned. Police are investigating.

Gaming machines broken into at Fajitas

Officers responding to a burglar alarm at Fajitas Mexican Restaurant, 6510 Joliet Road, at 2:19 a.m. June 15 saw a dark-colored vehicle leaving the area. The vehicle fled westbound on Joliet Road at a high rate of speed.

Video surveillance showed three men wearing sweat suits, gloves, and masks forcibly entering the building with sledgehammers and removing currency from gaming machines.

Five unlocked vehicles entered

A resident of the 700 block of Barton Road reported at 6:12 a.m. June 16 that two of their unlocked vehicles had been entered overnight. A wallet containing credit cards and $30 was taken. The wallet was later recovered in a neighbor’s yard, but the cash was missing.

Another resident reported that three of their unlocked vehicles, parked in the driveway in the same block were entered overnight. The contents were disturbed, but nothing was found missing.

Selling tobacco to minor

An undercover sting operation resulted in an employee at BP Amoco, 5300 S. La Grange Road, being charged with selling tobacco products to an underage decoy at 3:26 p.m. June 16.

Graffiti found on fence

A complainant in the 9900 block of West 58th Street reported seeing two young males walking down the street approximately one hour before calling police at 8:44 p.m. June 16.

One subject, dressed in a yellow sweatshirt, dropped a can of spray paint. Graffiti was discovered shortly after on a resident’s fence along the walking path to Ideal Park and on the concrete behind the property.

Retail theft charged

Officers on patrol at 6:29 p.m. June 18 in the 5600 block of La Grange Road observed a vehicle matching a recent retail theft at Mainstreet Wines & Spirits, 5425 S. La Grange Road.

Officers made a traffic stop and spoke with the driver, who matched the offender’s description and was wearing a similar sweatshirt worn during the theft.

The man was cited for retail theft and given a court date. Police did not release his name.

Gaming machines at Doty’s broken into

Officers responded at 2:26 a.m. June 19 to a burglar alarm at Doty’s, 5321 S. La Grange Road.

While en route, an officer observed a maroon Dodge Durango with heavy tinted windows and no license plates fleeing the area. Officers pursued the vehicle east on 55th Street but lost sight of it near 55th Street and Joliet Road due to its speed.

Video surveillance showed three offenders dressed in black clothing, masks, and gloves gained entry through a window. Once inside, they used sledgehammers to open gaming machines and remove currency. They attempted to gain entry to an ATM machine but were unsuccessful.

Identity theft used on trucking company

A resident in the 6700 block of South Brainard Avenue reported on June 19 that an unknown individual is using their trucking company’s information to fraudulently pick up loads throughout the country.

Driver charged in car vs. pedestrian

Marquis L. Wilson, 27, of Bridgeview, was arrested after he allegedly struck another motorist with his vehicle following a road rage incident in the 6000 block of South La Grange Road at 2:14 p.m. June 13, police said.

An investigation revealed that after both drivers pulled over near 61st Street, Wilson allegedly drove toward the driver who had exied his vehicle and struck the person, causing an arm injury.

Wilson was charged with failure to provide information after an accident and failure to render aid after an accident.

Police report information is provided by law enforcement agencies. Charges are not evidence of guilt. They are a record of police actions taken. Persons charged with a crime are presumed innocent until proved guilty in a court of law.
