Residents of Hickory Hills, Justice, and Bridgeview who sustained significant damage from last week’s EF-2 tornado may qualify for property tax assessment reductions, the Lyons Township Assessor’s Office announced.
Properties rendered partially or completely uninhabitable by the severe weather may be eligible for relief, according to Pat Hynes, township assessor.

“We understand the challenges that come with recovering from a natural disaster,” Hynes said in a statement. “We are here to help ensure that eligible property owners receive every benefit and form of relief available to them.”
Residents whose properties suffered substantial storm damage should contact the Lyons Township Assessor’s Office as soon as possible. Staff can explain eligibility requirements, assist with documentation, and guide property owners through the appeal process.
It’s suggested to take pictures and gather evidence of damage to your property.
Filing of paperwork will start at the end of July.
