Countryside will celebrate the nation’s 250th birthday one day early. The city plans a celebration from 7 to 10 p.m. July 3 at Flagg Creek Golf Course, 6939 Wolf Road.

The event is free, but tickets are required. They are available now at city hall.

Activities include glow-in-the-dark putting on the putting green near the first tee box, face painting, a photo booth, and a balloon artist. A deejay will provide music.

There will also be a contest for the best red, white, and blue outfit.

“It does sound like fun,” said Ald. Scott Musillami, chair of the special events committee, on June 10.

The same night, Walker Park, about five blocks south, will host the fireworks display at 7425 Wolf Road. However, tree growth south of the clubhouse has made those fireworks increasingly difficult to see in recent years, several officials said.
