Two drivers led Justice police on a high-speed chase across multiple roads early Thursday, June 4, reaching speeds exceeding 100 mph before escaping on Interstate 55.
An officer on patrol at 1:04 a.m. spotted a black 2004 Hyundai Sonata with suspended registration heading west on 79th Street.
The Sonata was traveling at a high rate of speed. As the officer followed, a black Chevy Corvette joined the chase, and both vehicles sped down 79th Street from 88th Avenue.
When the officer signaled them to pull over, both drivers refused and turned onto southbound Archer Avenue. The Sonata was traveling in excess of 100 mph. The Corvette was doing 75 mph at that point but soon also exceeded 100 mph, police said.
The vehicles headed north on LaGrange Road with the officer in pursuit. They were last seen heading south on Interstate 55 from LaGrange Road, where the officer ended the chase.
Police obtained the Sonata’s license plate number and determined the vehicle had been stolen and belonged to a red 2004 Ford in Oak Lawn.
If apprehended, the Sonata driver faces charges of improper lane usage, disobeying a traffic control device, reckless driving, aggravated speeding, aggravated fleeing to elude, unlawful display of registration, and unlawful possession of a stolen registration.
The Corvette driver, if found, will be charged with improper lane usage, disobeying a traffic control device, reckless driving, aggravated speeding, aggravated fleeing to elude, and driving with no evidence of registration.
