The Illinois Air Team mobile testing unit will return to Lyons Township on Tuesday, June 9, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., in the township parking lot, 6404 Joliet Road, Countryside.

At the last Township of Lyons mobile emissions testing event this past April, they processed about 60 vehicles a day during a four-day period.

The specially equipped vans, deployed through a partnership with Township Clerk Elyse Hoffenberg’s office, eliminate the need for motorists to visit a centralized testing facility. They function like a one-lane testing station and return to the township every three to four months.

“We have a steady stream of cars every day, each time we do this,” said Deputy Clerk George Pach in April. “We have people asking all of the time when we will be doing this again.”

The mobile units provide full emissions testing services — except damage claim inspections, which must be done at a centralized station. Motorists who received an emissions test notice or registration renewal notice requiring a test can use the service.

The unit returns at various dates during the year. You can check upcoming events at the Township of Lyons at lyonstownshipil.gov.
