A 20-year-old woman was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol after she rear-ended another vehicle in the 8100 block of Archer Avenue in Willow Springs at 10:20 p.m. May 14.

The 35-year-old man driving a Lexus westbound on Archer told police the woman’s Kia struck the rear of his car, causing it to spin several times.

While speaking with the woman, an officer detected a strong odor of alcohol. She told the officer she had consumed three Mike’s Hard Lemonades around 8 p.m. at a friend’s house, according to police reports.

Police said a witness told officers the Kia was traveling around 90 mph at the time of the crash.

The woman was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, driving without insurance, and driving on an expired registration.

On May 18, an officer contacted La Grange Hospital, where the woman was treated, and learned her blood alcohol content was 0.233, well above the legal limit, according to police.
