Drivers in the Orland Park area can save as much as $0.76 per gallon on regular unleaded gasoline depending on where they fill up, according to a survey of 19 stations conducted Wednesday.
The lowest price found was $4.23 at SNK, 12100 S. Ridgeland Ave. in Palos Heights. The highest was $4.99 at Shell, 12301 S. 80th Ave. in Palos Park — a spread that adds up to more than $11 on a 15-gallon fill-up.
The area average across all 19 stations came in at $4.60, down from $4.90 recorded June 1 and well below the $5.27 range seen in mid-May. Prices have eased considerably in two weeks, offering relief to commuters who saw regular unleaded near $5.30 as recently as May 18.
The best deals clustered along the Ridgeland Avenue corridor in Palos Heights, where three of the five cheapest stations were located.
CITGO at 8701 S. Roberts Rd. in Hickory Hills posted the second-lowest price at $4.39.
Thorntons at 7600 W. 159th St. in Orland Park and Mobil at 6350 W. 135th St. in Palos Heights both offered regular at $4.49.
Shell at 12121 S. Ridgeland Ave. in Palos Heights charged $4.52.
Prices ran steepest on the northwestern and eastern edges of the survey area.
BP at 12700 S. Harlem Ave. in Palos Heights posted $4.89, and Speedway at 8759 W. 95th St. in Hickory Hills charged $4.79. T
he Shell station on 80th Avenue in Palos Park, at $4.99, stood nearly $0.77 above the survey low.
