Family and friends are mourning the loss of Arlene Gaidas, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and matriarch whose life was defined by her commitment to family, faith and the relationships she nurtured over nine decades.
Gaidas died at age 90, leaving behind a legacy rooted in family and community. She was the beloved wife of the late David Gaidas and the devoted mother of David (Loretta) Gaidas, Kenneth (Judith) Gaidas and Joell (Joseph Panici) Gaidas.
She was also a loving grandmother to Stephanie, David, Michael and Olivia, who will carry forward memories of her warmth, guidance and unwavering love.
Members of the community have extended condolences to the Gaidas family, including the Palos Park Woman’s Club, where daughter-in-law Loretta Gaidas serves as first vice president.
“It is with sadness that we share the passing of Arlene Gaidas, mother-in-law of our First Vice President, Loretta Gaidas,” Ronette McCarthy, co-president of the Palos Park Woman’s Club, wrote in a message to members. “Please join us in keeping Loretta, David, and the entire Gaidas family in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.”
McCarthy said the club hopes the family finds comfort in the support of friends and loved ones and in the many memories they shared with Gaidas throughout her life.
Those who knew Gaidas described a woman whose greatest joy came from spending time with her family and watching it grow through the years. Her life reflected a deep dedication to those she loved, creating lasting bonds that remained at the center of her world.
Family members say the memories she leaves behind, from family gatherings and holiday celebrations to everyday moments shared with children and grandchildren, will continue to be treasured by those closest to her.
Visitation will be held from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday, June 5, at Palos-Gaidas Funeral Home, 11028 S. Southwest Highway in Palos Hills.
Funeral services will begin at 9 a.m. Saturday, June 6, at the funeral home, followed by a 10 a.m. Mass at St. Alexander Church, 7025 W. 126th St. in Palos Heights. Interment will follow at St. Casimir Lithuanian Cemetery.
As family and friends gather to celebrate her life, they will remember a woman whose love and devotion helped shape the lives of those around her and whose influence will continue to be felt for generations.
