The Stickney Village Board unanimously appointed Clerk Mitch Milenkovic as mayor Friday, May 29, filling the position left vacant by Mayor Jeff Walik’s death on May 9.
Milenkovic was sworn in by Village Attorney Michael DelGaldo at a special board meeting.
“Mayor Jeff Walik did a great job,” Milenkovic said. “He has us going in the right direction and these are hard shoes to fill, but I, and our board look forward to continuing his work.”
Milenkovic, who has lived in Stickney since 1988, spent 10 years as a village trustee before being elected clerk in April 2025. He previously served four years on the Lyons School District 103 board, including one year as vice president.
He is a board member of the Stickney Forest View Public Library but will step down from that position.
Deputy Clerk Beth Lukas will assume the clerk’s duties until the board appoints a permanent replacement.
