Barbara Jean Zych

Barbara Jean Zych, a longtime Elk Grove Village and Schaumburg resident who worked in data entry and newspaper management, died May 21. She was 82.

She died peacefully, surrounded by family, according to her family.

Zych worked in data entry for the Office of the Attorney General and in management for the Daily Herald newspaper.

She was the wife of the late Leonard Zych Sr. and is survived by three children: Arlene McCoy, Leonard Zych Jr. and James Zych; 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and her sister-in-law Karen Zych. She was preceded in death by her parents, Evelyn and Peter Dutkiewicz; her brother Richard Dutkiewicz; her sister Carol York; and her aunt and uncle Chester and Katheryn Polakowski.

Zych was known for her love of gardening, card games, horse racing and frogs. She was an accomplished cook whose potato salad was a signature dish at the family gatherings she frequently hosted. She spent many years with her partner, the late Jim Luce.

Visitation is Tuesday, June 2, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Damar-Kaminski Funeral Home & Crematorium, 7861 S. 88th Ave., Justice.

A funeral service and time of remembrance will be held Wednesday, June 3, at 10 a.m. at the funeral home.

Interment will be at Resurrection Cemetery, Justice.
