Laughter mixed with the sound of hair dryers and clinking glasses as clients old and new gathered inside Van Gogh Hair Spa to celebrate a major milestone, 35 years in business.

The longtime Palos Heights salon marked the occasion with food from Meshico Restaurant, drinks, photos from throughout the years and a 35% discount on products. The celebration felt less like a business anniversary and more like a reunion, which is exactly how owner Amy Redden likes it.

Hair products line the shelves inside Van Gogh Hair Spa during the salon’s 35th anniversary celebration in Palos Heights.

“At Van Gogh Hair Spa, clients are not treated like appointments on a schedule. They’re treated like family,” said Redden, a Palos Heights resident who has owned the salon since 2022.

That family atmosphere has helped keep customers coming back for decades.

“What makes Van Gogh Hair Spa unique is that we are more than just a salon; we are an experience built on creativity, community and genuine care,” Redden said. “For 35 years, Van Gogh has combined high-end hair artistry with a warm, welcoming atmosphere where clients feel comfortable, confident and truly valued.”

The salon was founded in 1991 by Robert and Sharon, and Redden said their original vision still shines through today. Walk through the doors and clients are greeted by stylists chatting with longtime customers, people laughing over coffee and a steady buzz of activity around the styling chairs.

The salon celebrated its anniversary Thursday, May 7, with guests enjoying catered food, drinks and photos highlighting the business through the years.

“What also sets us apart is our focus on continued education, teamwork and personalized service,” Redden said. “Our stylists are constantly learning the newest techniques and trends while still maintaining the personalized relationships that keep clients returning for years.”

From customized color and extensions to spa-like treatments, Redden said the goal has always been to make people feel good when they leave the salon.

“Every detail is designed to make people feel beautiful inside and out,” she said.

The business has called 12341 S. Harlem Ave. home for 29 years, becoming a familiar part of the Palos Heights community along the way. Redden said local support has meant everything to the salon’s success.

“We are truly lucky to have the Palos Heights community in our corner,” she said. “Many loyal and caring people want to see Palos Heights grow, thrive and become an even better community-friendly atmosphere, and Van Gogh Hair Spa is definitely one of them.”

While the salon spent time looking back during the anniversary celebration, Redden said there is plenty of excitement about the future too.

“We are looking forward to expanding and being in Palos Heights for another 30 years,” she said.
