Two people were arrested April 24 for possession of drug paraphernalia and retail theft after police said they took $184 in merchandise from Kohl’s.

Eric Winfrey, 46, of the 1300 block of Birch Road in Homewood, and Karen Adams, 27, of the 2600 block of Cullerton Street in Chicago, were driving near 159th Street and 80th Avenue when police realized that the driver of the vehicle was wanted for a retail theft April 15 in Mokena.

Police followed the car to the Orland Square Mall. When Winfrey and Adams exited the vehicle to go inside the mall, police conducted a plain-view search of the inside of the vehicle.

Police said they saw a glass pipe and a copper scrubber used for ingesting crack cocaine. Another plain-clothed officer entered the mall and followed Winfrey and Adams as they entered Kohl’s.

The two grabbed several items and left the store, police said. As police detained them outside the store, a Nike shoe fell out of Adam’s jacket onto the ground, police said.

Police said the two also had jewelry and two speakers.
