An Oak Lawn teenager has been charged with first-degree murder in the May 4 death of his father, police said.
Sami Mdanat, 18, of the 10400 block of South Austin Avenue, was charged May 7, police said. His next court date is scheduled for Friday, May 29, at the Bridgeview Courthouse.
Police responded to a shots fired call at 10:45 p.m. May 4. Upon arrival, they found an adult man inside suffering from a gunshot wound. A large-caliber weapon was recovered at the scene.
Officers began CPR until paramedics arrived. He was transported to Advocate Christ Medical Center where he was later pronounced dead.
Police quickly identified the shooter as the victim’s son, Sami Mdanat, 18, who had fled the area on foot.
Officers began a search and Mdanat was located a short time later near the scene.
Mdanat appeared at a detention hearing on May 7 at the Bridgeview Courthouse and he was ordered held at Cook County Jail.
