William J. "Bill" Kane

William J. “Bill” Kane, an Air Force veteran and elevator mechanic who was known for his storytelling and infectious sense of humor, died May 4. He was 83.

He lived in Orland Park.

Kane is survived by his daughter, Erin Kane, and her husband, Matt; his daughter, Laura Shoults, and her husband, William; his grandchildren, William and Patrick; his sister, Mary Kane; and his sister, Patricia Kane, and her husband, James. He was preceded in death by his sister, Nancy, and his brother, James. His parents, William Joseph Kane and Maryetta Walsh Kane, also preceded him in death.

Kane served in the Air Force and later worked as an elevator mechanic, a career he enjoyed discussing with others. He was active in his community through the Lions Club and maintained a lifelong passion for sports. He was known for his humor and ability to make people laugh.

A visitation will be held Saturday, May 16, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Palos-Gaidas Funeral Home, 11028 Southwest Highway, Palos Hills. A funeral service will be held at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

Interment will be held at a later date at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in honor of Mr. Kane to The Center ministry in Palos Park. Information is available at thecenterpalos.org.
