Matcha Fest is coming to SeatGeek Stadium on May 16 — a wellness-focused gathering built around the shade-grown green tea powder that’s become a cultural shorthand for intentional living.
Chicago promoter Berto Solorio, who produces the annual Summer Smash hip-hop festival at the stadium, is partnering with Matcha Fest founder Tanner Westimayer and Chicago artist PaintboyGav to bring the event to Bridgeview.
The collaboration marks the first Chicago-area edition of a regional festival that has operated in Orlando, Atlanta, and Tampa. Organizers expect the Chicago edition to be larger than any previous Matcha Fest.
For those unfamiliar: matcha is a finely ground powder made from shade-grown green tea leaves. Unlike regular tea, you consume the whole leaf — which means a more concentrated hit of nutrients and caffeine.
The appeal is straightforward. Matcha contains L-theanine, an amino acid that promises calm, focused energy without the jitters or the inevitable crash. It’s also loaded with antioxidants tied to reduced inflammation and a faster metabolism.
For the wellness crowd, it’s become something of a cultural shorthand for intentional living — the kind of choice that says something about you. And matcha is genuinely versatile. Lattes, baked goods, smoothies, cocktails — the stuff works in almost anything. That vivid green color doesn’t hurt on Instagram either.
The trend is already rooted in Bridgeview. Several local cafes — Al Hamawi, The Qahwa, Asal Bee Cafe, and Qamaria Yemeni Coffee on Harlem Avenue — already serve matcha, from traditional preparations to iced lattes.
On May 16, Matcha Fest runs from noon to 6 p.m. at SeatGeek Stadium and features a menagerie of matcha vendors, food offerings, and art activations.
Wellness experiences include puppy yoga. There will be cool places to lounge on the stadium grass and a DJ setting the vibe throughout the day.
The event is designed to welcome local families and matcha-lovers in Chicagoland.
Tickets range from $20.83 to $62.48, depending on parking and tote bag add-ons. A limited-edition tote bag is included with higher-tier ticket packages.
The event features a curated marketplace with local and regional vendors and exclusive merchandise.
