Ibrahim Kassem

The son of a 77-year-old man found dead Wednesday in his Orland Park home has been charged with first-degree murder, police said Friday.

Ibrahim Kassem, 46, was charged with murdering his father, Samir Kassem, in his home at 14117 Concord Drive. Police did not say whether Ibrahim Kassem lived in the same home.

Ibrahim Kassem will be transported Saturday to his first appearance at the Leighton Criminal Courthouse.

Police responded to an ambulance call at 6:30 p.m. on April 29. Officers said a 911 caller reported that a male subject was deceased inside the residence.

Upon arrival, officers located Samir Kassem, who was pronounced deceased at the scene.

During their investigation, officers quickly developed information that Samir’s son, Ibrahim Kassem was a person of interest in the death. A short time later, officers located Ibrahim and took him into custody without incident.

With the assistance of the South Suburban Major Crimes Task Force and the Cook County Sheriff’s Police Department, investigators gathered pertinent evidence linking Ibrahim Kassem to the homicide, Sgt. Casey Wall said in a news release.
