There was no shortage of sparkle or purpose Saturday night as guests stepped into the Beverly Arts Center for an evening where jazz, generosity and community took center stage.
The Beverly Arts Center’s 59th Anniversary Gala and Annual Auction, “Bev Beats: Southside Streets — A Night of Glitz, Glamor and All That Jazz,” brought a lively crowd together April 25 for more than just a night out. Beneath the music and celebration was a clear mission: raising critical funds to keep the arts accessible and thriving on Chicago’s South Side.

From the moment the Saint Xavier Jazz Cats began to play, the building buzzed with energy. They were followed by Marquetry!, and guests in cocktail attire filled the dance floor, gathered around high-top tables and moved between auction displays, all while enjoying drinks, small bites and conversation. But the heart of the evening was never far from view. Every bid placed and every ticket purchased directly supported the center’s programming.
For nearly six decades, the Beverly Arts Center has served as a cultural anchor in the community, offering performances, classes and exhibitions for all ages. Events like the annual gala play a vital role in sustaining that work, helping fund everything from youth arts education to public performances that might otherwise be out of reach for many families.
“This signature event is not only a celebration of BAC’s legacy, but also a reflection of the creativity and spirit that continues to thrive in our community,” said Dr. Carla Carter, Executive Director of the Beverly Arts Center. “We are thrilled to gather supporters, artists, and neighbors for a night of glitz, glamor, and all that jazz.”
The auction offerings reflected that same blend of culture and community, with experiences that encouraged winners to keep engaging with the arts long after the night ended. Theater tickets, dance performances and sports outings, including packages featuring the Chicago White Sox, drew steady interest throughout the evening.
Amid the celebration, the center also paused to honor two individuals whose contributions have helped strengthen the arts locally. Denise Gardner received the Founders’ Award, while Kat Huddleston was recognized with the Lifetime Achievement Award for her long-standing dedication to advancing artistic opportunities.
The gala was a celebration of 59 years and an investment in the future, helping ensure the Beverly Arts Center can continue expanding access to the arts, nurturing local talent and serving as a vibrant creative hub for generations to come.
