Marie A. Arrigoni built a life defined by service, leadership and a deep commitment to her community, a legacy that spanned decades in the southwest suburbs and touched countless lives.
Arrigoni, 81, died peacefully March 26, 2026, surrounded by her family.
Born and raised in Chicago, she later made her home in Palos Hills before settling in Palos Park, where she became a familiar and admired presence in civic and volunteer circles.
Her professional life was marked by a 26-year career with the Community Nutrition Network of Oak Lawn, where she served as director and activity coordinator. In that role, Arrigoni helped shape programs that supported seniors and strengthened community connections, leaving a lasting imprint on those she served.
Her dedication to public service extended into local government, where she served for many years as village clerk of Palos Park. Colleagues and residents alike knew her as a steady, reliable leader who worked behind the scenes to ensure the village operated smoothly.
Arrigoni’s impact was perhaps most visible in the organizations she helped build and sustain. She founded the Palos Park Senior Club, creating a space for older adults to connect and remain active. She also served as a board member and special events coordinator for the Palos Park Women’s Club and was an active member of the Palos Park Garden Guild.
Her commitment to service reached beyond municipal boundaries. Arrigoni volunteered extensively with Northwestern Medicine Palos Hospital and Brookfield Zoo Chicago, among many other causes. Whether organizing events or lending a helping hand, she gave generously of her time and energy.
Outside of her public life, Arrigoni found joy in simple pleasures. She loved to cook, read and travel, and she remained a devoted fan of the Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears. Friends and family described her as someone who embraced an active lifestyle and brought warmth and enthusiasm to everything she did.
Above all, Arrigoni was devoted to her family. She was the beloved wife of Alvin “Butch” Arrigoni, who preceded her in death, and a loving mother to Christine and Craig Arrigoni. She was a proud grandmother to Bradley and Bret Arrigoni, and a cherished aunt and friend to many.
Those closest to her say her legacy lives on not only in the programs she built and the offices she held, but in the relationships she nurtured and the lives she quietly uplifted.
Visitation will be held from 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Palos-Gaidas Funeral Home, 11028 Southwest Highway in Palos Hills. Prayers will begin at 9:15 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, followed by a 10 a.m. Mass at Sacred Heart Church. Interment will take place at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
