With a heart as warm as the sun and a smile that could light even the darkest room, Alexander “Alex” Demetzensky passed away peacefully on February 20, 2026, in Naperville, Illinois. He was 79.
Born January 24, 1947, in Hamburg, Germany, Alex built a life defined by love, service and steadfast faith. He was the devoted husband of Dorothy for 56 years, a respected U.S. Army veteran and a skilled electrician who earned an Associate of Applied Science in Electrical Technology. Through his trade, he brightened countless homes and lives, always ready with a steady hand and a well-timed joke.
Family was the center of Alex’s world. He was the proud father of Shelley (Tony) Bertucci, Alexander (Colleen) Demetzensky, Daniel (Sundae) Demetzensky and Hellene (Nathan) Delgado. His legacy continues through his cherished grandchildren Dakota, Anthony, Derek, Savannah, Nickey, Frankie, Tommy, Alexander, Leah, Christian, Kyle, Lexa, Isabella, Daniel, Cordelia, Preston, Zelda and Darwin, and great-grandchildren Mae and Gillian.
A faithful member of Saint Peter and Saint Paul Orthodox Church in Burr Ridge, Alex lived his Orthodox Christian beliefs daily through prayer, fellowship and service. He also enjoyed time with family and friends, whether sharing meals, playing cards with quick-witted humor or trying his luck at the slots at Rosie’s. Even during his courageous battle with Parkinson’s disease, his laughter and positivity never faded.
Alex will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, a man of faith, and a friend to many. His legacy of kindness, humor and devotion will continue to shine brightly in the lives he touched.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to Disabled American Veterans are appreciated.
